Yuri RunovOn the way back from Kathmandu to the Indian
plains we were promised to be shown the Mt. Everest. Everybody was in the agony
of suspense, jogging in the bus along the mountain serpentine. Our guide was
shining with happiness – the sky was cloudless, the air was clear and we,
therefore, were lucky as we had a real chance to see the highest peak on the
planet Earth. Finally we got to the view point. The nearby mountains stepped
aside to open the view over the distant range by the horizon. All the famous
eight thousand plus peaks, covered with snow, were there. But where is
Jomolungma (aka Gourishankar, aka Mt. Everest)? We managed to locate it only
with the help of a map of the main Himalaya range found at the view point. = Translated by the ULITKA =
